What Is It Like To Be A Carer or Nurse at a Nursing Agency?

As a Nurse or Carer, you’re probably already familiar with Nursing Agencies – but how do you know if working for one is the right choice for you?

In this blog, we’ll discuss what it’s like to work for a Nursing Agency, such as ourselves, and why it could be the ideal career choice for you!

What is a Nursing Agency?

Working for a Nursing Agency means that rather than being permanently fixed to one location, you’ll be able to experience a variety of settings, and undertake a range of roles with different people. Working in the same location isn’t for everyone, as it can eventually feel “stale”, but being with an agency means you’ll constantly be given new, fresh experiences!

You’ll still be expected to carry out ‘regular’ duties associated with your role, so don’t have to worry about suddenly being pushed into the deep end.

What's it like working for a nursing agency?

What Is Pay Like For a Carer or Nurse?

One of the main reasons why we all go to work! Money.

It makes the world go round, and plays a large part when considering any job, no matter the industry.

Whilst Carers and Nurses do enjoy helping others live their life to the fullest, it’s always nice to get paid well for the work carried out.

Well, if you’re thinking about becoming a Nurse or Carer with an agency, you’re in luck!

On average, Nurses and Carer jobs could get paid up to 66% more with a Nursing Agency, and if you’re happy to work weekend and night shifts, it could be much more!

Varied Hours

There are often times in our lives when it can become increasingly difficult to work around a fixed schedule. There are very few jobs that offer true flexibility, like being able to choose the shifts that suit you, rather than being told you need to be flexible!

However, a Nursing Agency will be able to offer you the opportunity of fully flexible work. Want to spend more time with your family, take some time for yourself, or take on some extra work for more money? No problem! Working for an Agency allows you to make these decisions without having to go through a boss – work as many or as few shifts as you want, when you want.

It’s particularly handy for those with other commitments, such as childcare, who need to be at home on certain days or may suddenly not be available without much warning.

Career Development and Experience

Whilst for many Nursing Agencies (including Medilink) you need pre-existing experience, you’ll get a wider variety of experience when you become an agency carer or nurse. This type of work means that you’ll be going to a variety of Residential and Nursing Homes, which means there’ll be different challenges and environments regularly. Of course, you may be a regular visitor to a particular client, but it’s more than likely you’ll be asked to fill in other shifts around your area.

Every shift gives you the opportunity to do different tasks, interact with a variety of people, and the opportunity to develop your skills and attributes.

Training

Any good Agency will provide their new and current staff with training.

At Medilink Nursing, before COVID-19, we would hold regular training days to ensure our current and new staff felt comfortable and confident on the job.

However, once social distancing became an issue, we immediately moved our training courses online. Our team put in every effort alongside our Sister Company, Aaron’s Department, to ensure the same industry-standard quality training could be (and still is) provided within the comfort of your own home.

In fact, all of our training courses available are accredited by the CPD, meaning they have been certified as effective and practical to aid an individuals’ development.

How Do Nursing Agencies Pay?

Since hours of work can vary from week to week, you’ll find that at Nursing Agency staff tend to be paid by the hour, which can be great! It becomes a lot easier for you to gauge how many hours you need to work to pay for expenses on a weekly, or monthly basis.

At Medilink Nursing, we go one better! If you need some money in your bank account the next day, we offer all of our staff FREE next-day payments! Simply let us know you want a next-day payment by the deadline, and we’ll pay a % of your wage the very next day!

To find more detail as to how this works, you can read our blog: Why You Should Join Medilink Nursing.
