The DBS

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, such as Vulnerable Adults and children. The DBS was formed in 2012 when the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged.

The DBS are responsible for processing requests for Criminal Record Checks, and making decisions as to whether individuals should be prevented from, or “barred from” working with Vulnerable Adults and/or children.

DBS checks are a legal requirement for many roles, particularly in our industry. All of our agency staff require an Enhanced DBS check with a check of the Adults’ Barred List, which is a lot of checks as you can imagine. We use Aaron’s Department for our staff DBS checks – you can read more about them by clicking here. Their services will most likely be useful to your organisation too!
