Excellent Service Thank you

Medilink Nursing Ltd is an Umbrella Body, accredited by the CRB
(Criminal Records Bureau).

In December 2006 we obtained the Umbrella Body status and now operate this service for the Criminal Record Bureau.

Processing a large number of requests each year for ourselves and our clients Medilink's experience ensures that we offer a efficient and conconscientious CRB solution.

We have been registered with the Criminal Record Bureau since it started and have successfully applied for thousands of Disclosures.

We are a well respected agency in the healthcare industry and all our team are proud of our reputation.

Medilink Nursing obtains disclosures for clients in England, Scotland and Wales.

The majority of our requests come from care organisations and small agencies, however, non-care organisations are welcome to register with ourselves providing they are eligible to ask Exempted questions.
Real people answering the phone!
What is a Umberella body?

An Umbrella Body acts as an intermediate between the CRB and the employing organisation. An overview of the interaction between the three parties is as follows

Step 1. The CRB provides the application form to the Umbrella Body (UB).
Step 2. The UB issues the application form to the UB client.
Step 3. The UB client passes the application form to the applicant to complete.
Step 4. The applicant completes the form and provides ID documents to the UB client.
Step 5. The UB client checks the form, validates the ID and returns the form to the UB.
Step 6. The UB checks the form, signs the application form and returns it to the CRB.
Step 7. The CRB checks the application form. If the application form is incorrectly completed the CRB returns the application form to the UB. (Back to Step 6).
Step 8. The CRB issues the Disclosure to the UB and the applicant.
Step 9. The UB receives the Disclosure and sends it to the UB client.
Step 10. The UB client receives the Disclosure and makes a decision on employment.

The difference is, they care
PoVa 1st Requests
A check of the protection of Vulnerable Adults list is part of the Enhanced or Standard level of Disclosure.

However, regulations in force since 26th July 2004 enable care workers to start work in care homes, domiciliary care agencies and nurse agencies, following a PoVA 1st check, and subject to certain conditions.

The PoVA 1st check is requested by the Umbrella body online.
The application must be in the CRB system before this can be obtained.
Allow 48 to 72 hours after the CRB have received the application before requesting the PoVA 1st check.
The CRB will confirm with Medilink Nursing by email whether a match exists for the applicant on the current PoVA list.
This information will be confirmed by post to the client.
A negative match cannot be assumed, it is a criminal offence to apply for care work while on the PoVA list but,
there have been a high percentage of positive matches nationwide.
The CRB processes application on Saturdays but not PoVA 1st requests.
This is therefore treated as a Waiting day before requesting the PoVA 1st check.

The majority of PoVA 1st requests are confirmed to us the same day as requested, by email.
A confirmation form is then forwarded by post to the client on the same day of receipt.
They make complicated bits simple.
Fees for our Umbrella service

Disclosure TypeService feeCRB feesTotal Cost
Enhanced£4.99£36£40.99
Standard£4.99£31£35.99

If a PoVA 1st Request is required, an additional £10 will be added to the total fee payable.
We will accept Disclosure vouchers issued by Jobcentre Plus in place of the CRB fee; they do not however cover the service fee.
Vouchers should be sent with the application.
Disclosure volunteers will only be expected to pay the service fee.
All fees are payable in advance, i.e. sent with the application.
We require only the receipt of a cheque and do not require funds to clear before we proceed with the application.
A quality service, why pay more!
What to do next?
Registering with us

Unlike some Umbrella bodies we will:

We make no charge to register with our service.
Advise on, and provide the necessary policies to satisfy the requirements of the CRB.
Obtain the application forms,
Advise and assist with the identification process and with the completion of the application forms.

Our service also includes:
Checking, countersigning and submitting the applications.
All disclosure Certificates will be forwarded back to the applying organisation promptly.
After registration we will provide you a useful pack giving guidance on how to complete all the forms.

The service is provided under contract with the registered manager of the registering organisation.
We do not require a minimum number of applications from our clients.
The agreement can be cancelled at any time without financial penalty.

Medilink Nursing is required to comply with the Criminal Record Bureau code of practice and take all reasonable steps to ensure that those to whom the service is being provided are also able to comply with relevant obligations of the same code.
We therefore provide guidance in respect of policies on recruitment of ex-offenders and on the handling and storage of sensitive personal data of disclosures.

I'm so glad we found you.
Frequently asked questions

Why should I use an umbrella body?

There are a number of benefits to accessing CRB checks via an Umbrella Body. These are:
The Umbrella Body acts as an interface between your organisation and the CRB so that you can concentrate on your own business.
The Umbrella Body will administer the process and acquire the CRB check on your organisation's behalf.
Umbrella Bodies are able to offer a great deal of experience in handling and processing CRB checks that can pay dividends in ensuring that the check is completed as quickly as possible.
You may only require a small number of checks per annum and cannot meet the threshold requirements or the terms for direct registration.
You may require help and assistance in order to comply with certain obligations contained in the CRB's Code of Practice.
You might lack the necessary administration resource or the relevant expertise in handling criminal record information.

How long will it take to receive the result of my check?

The Criminal Records Bureau takes around 4 weeks to process an application. The applicant will receive a disclosure certificate sent directly to their address; Medilink Nursing will also receive a certificate which we forward to the client.
Who will receive the Disclosure?
The applicant will receive the Disclosure by post from the CRB.
Come and see us you will be made welcome.
